The MH social review
As my training contract draws to a close, I want to reflect on my time since joining the firm in 2021. In the last two years, I have actively participated in numerous social events and been engaged in various activities. This blog will provide a behind the scenes glimpse of the social aspect of working as a trainee solicitor at Marriott Harrison.
So let’s start with our move to our new Cheapside office, which marked a shift to broader, glistening horizons. From beers under sunset-skies on the cobbled streets by St Paul’s Cathedral, to sports games on the big screen with friends old-and-new at the Pavilion End, and top-quality team lunches at Brasserie Blanc, 1 Lombard Street, and Nando’s, the possibilities to level-up have been endless.
Let me whisk you back to December, when the firm hosted its annual Christmas Party at One Moorgate Place, a historic building in the heart of the City. The event boasted the most exciting red-carpet moments the firm has seen for years. Some of the best-dressed attendees adorned themselves in sequins, sporting black, sparkling suits and an array of gilded and bejewelled dresses. Others took inspiration from Fred Astaire, in effortlessly cool smoking jackets and waltzed their way through the entire 1989 (Taylor Swift) album. While the dancing and sing-alongs took a slightly less elegant turn, the setting was perfect for a night of team-bonding and building beautiful memories.
More recently in April, the trainees got together at our bi-annual trainee dinner. This was a great opportunity for us to catch up on work and personal lives. We celebrated seat changes, deal completions, an upcoming wedding and new house-moves at a famous BYOB Brick Lane Indian. After a large meal, we wandered over to an old pub where we sat in the corner of the upstairs dining room, in its glorious, decayed grandeur, and reminisced of times gone by — from our first days at the firm, to our favourite rookie-errors.
We have been spoilt for choice in our local area and there is always something for everyone. Various informal groups have formed organically such as Darts Club at The Lord Raglan and Salsa! at Danceworks.
We hope that these initiatives will continue to grow, and that we see more interests and talents come out of the woodwork! My journey has been a wild ride, filled with laughter and the building of solid friendships. I look forward to continuing my journey at Marriott Harrison when I qualify and join the commercial team in September.
